A CTP (Compulsory Third Party) claim is a claim for compensation following a motor vehicle accident in NSW. Under the Motor Accidents Injuries Act 2017, all registered vehicles must have CTP insurance. This insurance covers personal injury claims by people injured in road accidents — including drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and cyclists. Statutory benefits are available to all injured parties regardless of fault, while common law damages are available to not-at-fault claimants with injuries above the threshold.
